Exposing Greed and Control
Read: James 4:1-3
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

Consider a recent unpleasant disagreement and ask the Lord to give you eyes to see your part in it. Can you see that at root, part of the problem might be a selfish motive?
The Bible goes on to tell us how to uproot this from our lives: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.” (James 4:7-8)

Prayer Focus:
Draw near to God. Ask for humility and for grace to overcome selfishness. Ask Him to give you His heart so that your motives are pure.
